Tabeez necklace - multi-coloured
Featuring a multi-coloured, handmade necklace from the brand, Paulami.
Katrans of multi-coloured fabrics remaining from Paulami's other design pursuits are all collected and used to make these products by women in Delhi slums. Different colours and prints are sorted out and made into beads and then specifically chosen to make the final piece. The plain bright colours are combined with printed ones or embroidered ones. Sometimes tiny glass beads are also stitched on plain colours to give them some play.
The self-titled label, Paulami, began mainly as an initial idea of using Kantha embroidery on bags and accessories in a contemporary way. Whilst exploring ideas, several other crafts have also inspired and made their way into products.
A firm believer in sustainability and not being wasteful, the jewellery line was a result of effectively making use of the fabric leftovers that were collected after making bags. Paulami is currently training ladies from nearby slums who are very talented, yet, owing to their family duties, they are unable to hold regular jobs, and so this enables them to make a living by working from home.
This piece could be worn in two ways either as a high neck or as a long pendant.
